And We Didn't Even Get Popcorn

I go to the movie theater maybe twice a year.

I do not enjoy the theater. Well, let me clarify, I do not enjoy the other PEOPLE at the theater. Because every other person in the theater besides myself is RUDE and LOUD and ANNOYING.

A few weekends ago my husband and I went to see "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows...part 2"--yes, in a theater. I am a HUGE Potter fan, loved the books, really enjoy the movies and sometimes a movie on the big screen is just so much better than on your regular old tv. So I was desperate to go see the finale to this epic series in the theater and my husband made that happen for me.

This is what we were barraged with: burping. We were surrounded on all sides by disgusting burps every few minutes. You think I'm exaggerating, but I am NOT.

When we first got there, there were only a couple other people seated, so we took the good seats right in the middle of the theater. Bad idea. As more and more people showed up, they squeezed themselves around us. Like right next to us. I like a seat or two as a sort of "cushion of protection" against the weirdos, but this didn't happen. And then it started...

Not the movie. The burping.

The guy next to my husband loudly burps. We look at each other. Seriously? Then he does it again. And again. Then a bigger group sat right behind us, they were a little older and quite loud, and they started burping as well.

It was just ridiculous people. The movie started and it seemed like if there was any sort of quiet moment, that was the time to burp. It was insanity!

So instead of coming away from that thinking I had just seen a fantastic movie, I came away thinking I NEVER WANT TO GO TO THE THEATER AGAIN!!

Boo for dumb people.

  1. That makes me SO mad! I have been known to tell people to be quiet, but not very often. We've actually gotten up and left before. I really hate it when people smack popcorn loud too. I want to say, "Did your mother seriously never tell you that it's rude to eat with your mouth open? Are you two. years. old.? Grow up and quit being so rude!" But of course, I never say it and just leave mad.

    I feel your pain!

  3. Between texting, talking, eating, the movies are ridiculous. I sat through Inception without a single distraction and it was the greatest movie ever.

  4. I don't go to the movies for different reasons than yours. However, I wish people would sign a statement that they've read the rules and agree to abide by the conditions set forth before going in. It's so distracting all that kind of junky behavior.

  5. That would seriously move me to an act of rage. This is one of my hugest pet peeves.

  6. Where is your theater? I've found that cellphones are the worst, but I've not encountered a burping epidemic.

That, for lack of a better word, sucks.

  8. Okay, wow, that worked! Heidi, again, to say that your movie experience sounds like a conspiracy of dunces. Like my not being able to comment via google. urgh! Thanks so much for your sweet comment on my blog. I love you, too!

  9. Buurup...oh, excuse me.
Anyway, what BURPING!! I agree with you on the whole movie experience. Tickets cost to much in the first place and the pop and popcorn are ridiculously overpriced.
and I too........HATE being around people I don't know, or care to know (does that make me a bad person)
I do NOT want to share my personal space with them....like you, stay a seat or 2 away.
But, there are some movies that just need to be seen on the BIG screen, surround sound I guess.
We never go to the movies around here as it would be an hour drive just to get there.
I prefer sitting on my sofa in my jammies, with ALL the buttered popcorn I want.
and I can burp and not bother anyone (tee, hee)

It is nice to be visiting your blog again. It will take me awhile to catch up with everyone I am afraid. hugs

I'm mysteriously judging whether or not you're going to comment or not...you know you want to.
