Whoever Said "Money Doesn't Buy Happiness" was Never Poor!

Since I've been married, my husband has always taken care of the bills. I mean, heck I was 18 when we got married, I wouldn't have trusted me either! But now that my husband is gone (are you getting sick of hearing that yet? Four more months of it, get used to it.), guess what? I have to take care of EVERYTHING.

There's a couple problems with this though.

I hate calling people. I don't even like calling most people I know, and now I have to call people in much more uncomfortable situations. As in calling about bills, or the stupid shirts we bought from my daughter's stupid school three months ago and they still haven't come. Not to mention the fact that there is no way I'm answering a number I don't recognize, and of course they never leave a message (not that I would call back anyway, but no message = no guilt for not answering.) Its been rough trying to push myself out of my comfort zone, really rough. Someone called today asking for my husband, I told them he wasn't here and if I could take a message. They said "oh, we'll just try and get him at home." and I said "He's at basic training in South Carolina." and the moron said "Ohhhhh, well...we'll just try him later at home." Can't say I was very polite when I started laughing and said "Alrighty then! BYE!"

The other thing I had to do was our income taxes. Boy was that a joy! I've never had to do them before, and thank the Lord for TurboTax because I would've been a big pile of goo by the end of the process without it. I do have to say though, the nice thing about doing the taxes and being the only adult around to decide how to spend it is pretty awesome. I'm so treating myself to something awesome when it gets here! I mean, after I pay back my mom and pay our bills and get the stuff we need that I've been holding out for...so something awesome after all that.

Oh February 12th you can't get here soon enough!

  1. I do all of our finances. All of them. I have to say, when we were first married, and really poor, it bothered me more, because I had to bear the brunt of the stress. Now that we are more stable, it doesn't matter as much to me.

  2. Darling friend, you know I had to do this for five months last year, right? Let me just tell you, YOU'RE NOT EXAGGERATING. Being alone sucks like a three year old with a lolly pop.

  3. Yayyy for you doing your taxes!! You should treat yourself to something - You will need it and you deserve it too!
I am with you on the calls - I really do not like calling people or calling people back. I have always been bad about the phone.
My husband has been the Bishop for about 6 mths now and I cannot do that anymore...UGH! I have to answer EVERY call and it is hard sometimes!!

  4. You can do it- even the parts that suck. I did our taxes on Sunday and I'm REALLY hoping that $$$ gets here ASAP. I have so many plans for it! Good job on doing the icky parts.

  5. So funny about bills. When I was first married I was so shocked that you had to pay for garabage removal.

  6. I pay all of our bills (the ones that my husband actually puts in our "bill bin", 'cause I can't pay 'em if I don't know where they are!)....but I don't keep track of our finances. I just write, sign and mail the check. And my husband makes sure that the money will be there in the account! I, too, hate calling people. I can call my husband, my mom, and my sisters. Anyone else, and I get extremely nervous (or I just don't call.)

  7. I hate having to do the finances. Like Kristina said, when you're poor it sucks big time. I wouldn't know about that 'stable' part though yet. Haha. Good luck with it.

  8. What is it about making phone calls, especially to strangers? I am with ya on that one, hate it? I am so jealous, I still have my taxes to do. I have been married for 36 years and have always paid the bills and done the taxes and it still stinks. Sorry I can't offer anymore comfort.

  9. I have always done the finances and the bills. My husband never has any idea how much is anywhere. Which, I have to say, has helped me get away with a few things. . . :)

And I admire you greatly for the taxes. I would have gotten an accountant!

  10. So...if you want me to, I'll call the school and tell them you want your shirts. I'm ready for a fight today! :)

I'm mysteriously judging whether or not you're going to comment or not...you know you want to.
